Veronica M. Varkalis, age 86, of Carpentersville, passed away on Thursday evening, April 20, 2023, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington. Veronica was born on March 11, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. On April 4, 1959, she married her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Varkalis. Jerry preceded Veronica in death on March 14, 2017, after 57 years of marriage.
Veronica was a resident of the Carpentersville area for over 50 years and a member of St. Monica Church in Carpentersville.
Survivors include her son, Keith (Tammy) Varkalis; her four granddaughters: Bryanna, Amanda, Alyssa, and Brooke Varkalis; and her two great-grandchildren, Ryland, and Raiden Varkalis. Other survivors include her sister, Eileen (Robert) Hnatt, and her brother, James (Penny) Oakey, as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Veronica was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lattin, and her brother Jack Oakey.
Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Private burial will be at the Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
