Obituary for Tomoko Smart
Tomoko Smart, age 89, of East Dundee passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 17, 2022, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Tomoko was born in Yokohama, Japan on June 30, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Kanji & Tome Suzuki. She met Ronald Smart while working at a military base in Osaka, Japan. They married and came to the United States in 1958 She was an active member and volunteer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley. Her passion was Ballroom and Latin dancing. She performed for many years and won numerous awards. Tomoko was an avid bowler at Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville “Prime Timers” League. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, country and western dancing, and socializing with her amazing friends where she resided at Village Green in East Dundee.
Tomoko is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mays Paschke and her husband Nelson Paschke and her son, Michael Smart; her loving grandchildren, Kiana, Jonathan, Colin, and Mackenzie; other survivors include many good and faithful friends. In addition to her parents, Tomoko was preceded in death by her sister, Aiko Suzuki, and her former husband and longtime friend, Ronald K. Smart
Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services at 5:00 P.M. with Deacon Jim Conrey, officiating. Private family inurnment will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in West Dundee. In lieu of flowers. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or any charity that rings true to your heart, thank you.
