Obituary for Rebecca Allen

Rebecca A. Wendt Allen, age 78, of Carpentersville formerly of Pleasureville, Kentucky and former many-year resident of West Dundee passed away on Monday afternoon, September 5, 2022, at her home.

Rebecca was born on April 27, 1944, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Paul Sr. & Virginia R. (nee Tolbert) Allen. Rebecca was a member of the East Dundee Fire Department where she served as a volunteer Paramedic and Fire Fighter. She was a caregiver to many and worked in the medical field for many years. She also worked as a paraprofessional at Dundee Highlands School in West Dundee. Rebecca was a former active member of the First United Methodist Church in West Dundee, as well as an active member of the Smithfield Baptist Church in Kentucky. Rebecca had a beautiful voice, she loved sing, listen to music, to sew, cross stitch, read, and never missed the Kentucky Derby.

Survivors include her children: Carrie (Scott) Rhoades, Leigh Ann (Christopher) Potenza, and Matthew Wendt. Other survivors include her eight grandchildren, whom she loved and was very proud of: Ashley (Kenny) Rogers, Quinn (Samantha) Childs, Cole (Bria) Childs, Alexis James, Evan Wendt, Kyndall Rhoades, Avery Rhoades, and Reilly Wendt. Her four great-grandchildren: Alivia Childs, Lennon Rogers, Ayla Childs, and Jayce Childs. Her brother; Paul (Carol) Allen Jr., as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends here in Illinois and Kentucky. In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her former husband and friend, Richard L. “Dick” Wendt.

At Rebecca’s request she will be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in West Dundee on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Wendy Witt, officiating. Rebecca will be interred in Kentucky at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee.
