Mary L. Vela, age 81, of Carpentersville, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home under the care of and surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Mary was born in White Castle, Louisiana on October 26, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Dolores Campos and Alberto Lara. She was a resident of Carpentersville for over 50 years and attended St. Monica Church in Carpentersville. She married her husband, Eleopoldo Vela on September 3, 1965. Eleopoldo preceded Mary in death on October 24, 2020, after 55 years of marriage. Prior to her retirement, for over 25 years, Mary was a loyal and valued employee of Motorola and later she worked as an administrative assistant at Fox View Apartments in Carpentersville.

Mary is survived by her children: Diana Vela Diaz, Jacinto L. (Pamela) Vela, Paul Vela, Eleopoldo E. (Ana Cruz) Vela, and Belinda (Rafael) Torres. Other survivors include her 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, her brothers, Santiago (Roxanne) and Alberto Lara, her sister, Consuela “Connie” (Rudy) Castillo as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband Eleopoldo, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings; Irene, Ramona, Dario, Nancy, Josefina, Manuel, Candelaria, and Margarita.

Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 3-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Miller Funeral Home beginning with prayers at 10:15 a.m. then leaving in procession to St. Monica Church in Carpentersville for Mass at 11:00 A.M.
