Mack was born in a coal mining town on Bachus Mountain in Beckley, West Virginia on September 24, 1942, and was the youngest son of 11 children born to the late Clyde William & Nellie Mae ( nee Pugh) Adkins. He left West Virginia at the age of 17 to make his way in the world and migrated to Chicago, finally settling in Carpentersville in 1971. Due to major health conditions and concerns, Mack had to retire in 2004. During his 47 years of employment, Mack was always a valued and loyal employee. For many years, he had been employed by Fel-Pro in Skokie and later by Flender Corporation in Elgin. Mack was also a longtime active and loyal member of Carpentersville Moose # 1958 as well as an avid attendee of several activities of American Legion Post # 57 in Elgin. Mack was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman. He was ever present in the woods and water. He enjoyed bowling and over the years was active in several bowling leagues and was very proud of the many trophies he acquired. He also enjoyed playing cards, billiards, and horseshoes. Mack was very proud of his home and maintained his lawn meticulously. His attitude was “Never to be late for anything”. Anyone who knew Mack was aware of his wild and very charismatic nature. To the end… Mack was known for his unwavering “ no nonsense demeanor”. He was a loving and devoted dad and grandpa as well as a great friend to anyone who knew him. In short, Mack got a lot of living into the short 80 years of his life.
