Obituary for Leonard W. "Mr. Lenny" Romanek
Leonard W. “Mr. Lenny” Romanek, age 78, of West Dundee passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 8, 2022, at JourneyCare in Barrington. Len was born on September 3, 1944, in Floodwood, Minnesota, and was the son of the late Edward & Josephine (nee Koziol) Romanek.
On March 9, 1968, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Lillian R. Schiavoni. Lillian preceded Len in death on January 30, 2010, after 41 years of marriage.
Prior to his retirement, for 40 years, Len was a valued and loyal employee of Barrington School District # 220 where he worked as a custodian at Countryside Elementary School in Barrington where he was
affectionately known as "Mr. Lenny".
Survivors include his two sons, Leonard (Jennifer) Romanek and Edward (Lori McGavock) Romanek; his grandson, Joseph; granddaughter, Rebecca; his sisters, Barbara (Bill) Gilmore and Jeanette (Ken) Zaremba, and his brother, Ronald Romanek. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Grace B. Schiavoni; his sisters-in-law, Mary Westerlund, Diane (the late Gerald M.) Olson, and Joann (the late Steven J. “Soupy“) Meyer, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Lillian, Len was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela M. Romanek on September 3, 2018, his father-in-law, Julius F. Schiavoni, and his sisters, Arlene Rieke and Carolyn Romanek.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers. Memorials may be made to either The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
