Obituary for Leona Nemec
Leona Hajek Nemec, age 87, of Carpentersville passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by and under the care of her family on Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2023. Leona was born on April 11, 1935, in Chicago and was the daughter of the late Joseph & Victoria Irene (nee Kupkowski) Hajek.
On August 28, 1955, she married the love of her life Richard A. “Rich” Nemec. Rich preceded Leona in death on May 23, 2019, after 64 years of marriage.
Leona and Rich made their home in Carpentersville for over 25 years and were former many-year residents of Villa Park. Leona was a member of St. Catherine of Siena church in West Dundee.
Leona is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Susan (Bradley) Fairhurst and Caryn (Nicholas) Antonelli and her four adoring grandchildren, David Fairhurst, Daniel (Jessica) Fairhurst, Nicholas (Amanda) Antonelli, and Victoria Antonelli. Other survivors include her sister, Joanne (the late Bob) Shepski, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Rich, Leona was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Nemec on November 12, 2008, her infant brother Joseph in 1944, and her infant sister Mary Ann in 1947.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee with Rev. John McNamara, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee on Monday, January 9, 2023, from 4-9 P.M. and again on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to either St. Catherine of Siena Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or VITAS Hospice.
