Obituary for Lea Hokanson

Lea Hokanson, age 38, of Elgin passed away unexpectedly in her home on Thursday morning, January 19, 2023. Lea was born on June 3, 1984, in Elgin, and was the beautiful daughter of Scott and Jo A. (née Boor) Hokanson. Lea was a lifelong resident of the area and a 2002 graduate of H.D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin. She excelled at many professions, most recently as a licensed esthetician.

Lea was passionate, kind, embraced the joys in life, and was the type of person who lived in the present. She kept her friends, her family, and her “little guy” Logan close to her heart. She deeply treasured memories and always remembered the little details and moments. Lea was also an amazing artist and freely shared her many talents with those she knew. She poured love and thought into every handmade gift. Her creative energy and carefree adventurous spirit brought light and beauty to this world and into everything she did.

Above all, one of Lea’s greatest qualities, she selflessly loved. Lea made you feel special and important, and she unknowingly transformed the lives of everyone she encountered. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people and evoked that same essence of love in each person she crossed paths with. Lea, you captured a piece of all our hearts. We miss you but know your spirit will always be with us. We look forward to the day when we can be whole and see your beautiful, shining smile again.

Survivors include her parents Scott and Jo Hokanson, her brother, Matthew, and his wife, Erin Hokanson. Other survivors include her paternal grandfather, Robert Hokanson, uncle Craig and his wife Susan Hokanson, aunt Julie Joswick, uncle John M. and his wife Kathy Boor, and her cousins.

Lea was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents John M. and Shirley J. (née Flannery) Boor and paternal grandmother Doris Mae (née Hanson) Hokanson.

At Lea’s request, she will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread in a place near and dear to her heart. There will be no visitation services. In lieu of flowers please consider supporting Lea’s passion for dogs and animals by donating to https://www.animalhouseshelter.com/donate/.
