Obituary for Lawrence J. Fettes Jr.
Lawrence J. “Larry” Fettes, Jr., (known by his family as Sonny) age 82, of East Dundee passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday morning, May 19, 2023. Larry was born on May 6, 1941, in Elgin and was the oldest of 8 children born to the late Lawrence J. & Marie A. (nee Backhaus) Fettes. Larry was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1959 graduate of Huntley High School. Larry was a very proud U.S. Army Vietnam War era veteran and a longtime member of the Dundee VFW Post # 2298. He was a plumber by trade and a member of the Plumbers Union Local # 130. For many years, Larry also served as the East Dundee and West Dundee Plumbing Inspector. Larry was a member of the Huntley American Legion, Elgin Moose # 799, and the Elgin Riverside Club. He enjoyed Bowling, fishing, gardening, and playing horseshoes.
On February 5, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Kalsow. Ruth Ann preceded Larry in death on January 1, 2022, after almost 56 years of marriage. Larry was a devout Roman Catholic and a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in West Dundee, he served as an usher and was a member of the Siena Council # 8596 Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his sons Lawrence J. "Trey" Fettes, III, and Steven (Karen) Fettes, and his three grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, and Luke Fettes. Other survivors include his brother and sisters: James (Elda Lou) Fettes, Barbara (Rodger) Brandt, Cathy (Michael) Roberts, Donna (Rick) Yurs, and Susan (Joe) Johnas; his sisters-In-law, Naomi and Marilyn Fettes, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Ruth Ann, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Eugene. Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Dundee. Burial with military honors will follow at Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
