Obituary for Kenneth J. Ternberg

Kenneth J. Ternberg, age 84, of Palatine passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his home. Ken was born on February 18, 1939, in Chicago and was the son of the late Evert & Rose (nee Hubacek) Ternberg.

Ken was a resident of the Palatine area for over 57 years. Ken was an extremely hard worker who started his career as a bricklayer, and later became a Foreman Electrician and Project Superintendent. Prior to retirement, Ken was a longtime, loyal and valued employee of Carey Electrical Contractors in McHenry. He was also a many-year member of I.B.E.W. Union Local # 117. Ken was drafted and served in the United States Army. His service orders included a deployment to Korea during the Korean war.

By the time Ken was in High School, he already knew that one day he would build his own house. Towards that goal and while in High School metal shop class, Ken fabricated a metal script “T” for his future house. Ken realized that goal and completed the construction of the house that he lived in from 1967 until the time of his death. That metal “T” that he made in High School hangs on his chimney to this day.

Survivors include his sons, David Ternberg and James Ternberg, and his other children: Pamela (Doug) Schrieber, Scott (Lisa) Upchurch, and Dee McDermott. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Cory (Kristin), Hannah, Jacqueline (Matthew), Kristyn (Andrew), Taryn (Cody), Tyler, Tia, Cole, and Carli, and his great-grandchildren: Kaylor, Bella, Sophia, London, and, Beckham.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years Brenda K. on December 20, 2016, and his son-in-law, Dan McDermott and his brother Ronald Ternberg.
