Obituary for Kenneth D. "Pinky" Schroeder

Kenneth D. “Pinky” Schroeder, age 90, of East Dundee passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 22, 2023, at Highland Oaks in Elgin. Pinky was born in Elmhurst on October 19, 1932, and was the son of the late Arthur & Alpha O. (nee Abel) Schroeder.


On February 13, 1954, he married his wife, Irma R. Albright. Irma preceded Pinky in death on October 30, 2022, after 68 years of marriage.

Pinky made his home in the Dundee area for the past 69 years. He was a longtime active, and faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Dundee. He sang in the chancel choir for many years, as well as serving as an Elder, a member of the Dialog Evangelism Ministry Team, a former Chairman of the Congregation, and a many-year member of the Immanuel Mens Club. He was also a very proud United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, for many years, Pinky was the owner and operator of Schroeder Cartage Co.

Survivors include his children: Janice (Rev.Tom) Wirsing, Kenneth L. Schroeder, Sandra Hager, Susan (Randy, Sr.) Janes, and Barbara (James) Christie. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Tara Wirsing, Thomas (Angela) Wirsing, Christie Alvarado, Keith (Danielle) Schroeder, Evan Schroeder, Jason (Candace) Hager, Randy (Kendra) Janes, Jr., and Dr. Margaret Christie; his great-grandchildren: Riley, Taya, Brady, Wyatt, Scarlett, Ellie, Hannah, MacKenzie, Liam, Jaxson, Elizabeth, and Nathan; his sisters-in-law, Linda Schroeder, and Yvonna Dalton, along with his nieces, nephews, his Immanuel church family, and many good and faithful friends. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Irma, Pinky was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. James Schroeder, and Duane Schroeder, his son-in-law Donald Hager and his sister, Jean A. Becker, and his godchild, Ryan Schroeder.

Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church 310 E. Main Street in East Dundee with Rev. William P. Yonker, Senior Pastor, officiating. Private family burial with Military honors will be held at the Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee prior to the Memorial Service. The Schroeder family will be receiving friends at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
