Obituary for Karl W. Redmer

Karl W. Redmer, age 66, of Humboldt, Arizona former many-year resident of Hampshire and a longtime resident of East Dundee, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Karl was born on September 2, 1956, in Elgin and was the son of the late Ralph V. and Ione L. (nee Groneman) Redmer. On November 10, 2001, he married his wife, Wendy L. Svendsen Nichols. Prior to retirement and relocating to Humboldt, AZ., for 35 years, Karl was a longtime loyal and valued employee of Otto Engineering in Carpentersville where he worked as an electrical engineer. He was a 1974 graduate of Dundee Community High School and was baptized, confirmed, and a longtime member at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. Karl was an avid designer and builder of radios and radio-controlled model airplanes, as well as a HAM radio operator for over 50 years. Karl was a many-year member of the American Modelers Association (AMA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Wendy L.; His children, Peter (Stephanie) Redmer and Mattie (Justin) Legel; his step-sons, Tim (Jennifer) Nichols, and Charles Nichols. His five grandchildren: Cody, Kaleb, Trenton, Christian, and William; and his two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Odin. Other survivors include his sister, Jill Redmer; his nephews, Zachary and Evan Zugin; and his grandniece, Paige Zugin, along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Zugin.

At Karl’s request, he was cremated in Arizona. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 3-7 P.M. at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (357 Division Street) in Elgin from 11:00 A.M. until the time of a Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon. Private family burial will be at the Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee. Please omit flowers.
