Obituary for Joyce A. Evans
Joyce A. Evans, age 84, of Algonquin, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of hospice on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Joyce was born in Chicago, IL on April 4, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Thomas P. & Charlotte (nee Vanderpool) Rickard.
On September 20, 1958, she married her husband and best friend James J. Evans. Jim preceded Joyce in death on October 18, 2019, after 61 years of marriage.
Joyce was a resident of Algonquin for the past 25 years and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Dundee. In earlier years while her daughters were young, Joyce was very involved in Girl Scouting as well as affectionately known as the Drake Avenue Nurse. She is survived by her three daughters: Pattie (Butch) Komperda, Mary (Tim) Menzer, and Suzy Evans; her five grandchildren: Brian (Valerie) Menzer, Nicole (Ryan) Wall, Lauren (Fiance’ Elijah Pinkevich) Menzer, Chris Komperda, and Stephanie Komperda; her five great-grandchildren: Crawford, Desi, Ellie, Sadie, and McKenzie. Other survivors include her nieces and nephews: Dan, Michael (Colleen), and Kathleen Evans, Thomas (Dorie), and David (Jodi) Rickard; her longtime special friend, Ginny Tondryk, as well as many other good and faithful friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jim, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Rickard.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee with Rev. John McNamara, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery in Fox River Grove. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee from Noon-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 11, 2022, and again on Monday morning at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral mass.
