Obituary for Johnnie Ray Mitchell
Johnnie Ray Mitchell ( nee Robinson ) age 91, of South Elgin, Illinois, and former many-year resident of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away early Monday morning, February 13, 2023, at her home. Johnnie Ray was born in Bluff City, Arkansas on September 25, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Ray Hudson and Johnnie ( nee Grayson ) Robinson. On December 16, 1950, she married her beloved husband Charles D. Mitchell. Charles preceded Johnnie Ray in death on October 24, 2007, after 56 years of marriage.
Johnnie Ray was a resident of South Elgin for the past 14 years and was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Elgin. She was raised and educated in the Camden, Arkansas area and was a 1949 graduate of Fairview High School. Prior to retirement, she worked as a Medical Transcriptionist. In retirement, Johnnie and Charles lived in Sheridan, Arkansas and were longtime and faithful members of the Sheridan Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son Charles D., Jr ”Chuck” and his wife Suzanne Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL., her daughter Lori M. and her husband Mark Fisk of Huntley, IL., Her 4 grandchildren, Kathryn( Guy) LaCoss, Robert (Mihana) Mitchell, Jennifer (Jeremy) Nocchi and J. Michael Fisk. Her 9 great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Ocean, Addyson, Dominick, Gabby, Anna, Josiah, Ellie, and Timothy. Her sister, Rebecca (Thomas)Gwinn of Destin, Fl. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Johnnie Ray was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret May and Faye Williams.
Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. Private family burial will be in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville, Arkansas. A Memorial celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
