Obituary for Janet Ann Scheurich Hankins
Janet A. Hankins (née Scheurich) age 80, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2023, in Elgin, Illinois. Born in Chicago on August 31, 1942, to Frances and Joe Scheurich, she is survived by her brother Bob, extended family and dear friends.
Jan will be remembered for her love of the Church, family, friends, and animals. She wore bright, bold colors and loved to accessorize with jewelry, scarves, and purses. Throughout her lifetime, she has had many roles, but her all-time favorite has been to be Aunt Jan to all of her “kids”. Jan could often be found surrounded by children, often under a table playing matchbox cars, reading a book, giving back scratches until the goosebumps were too much, or snuggling. She had the ability to love unconditionally and yet discipline when needed with just a change in her tone. Many of us still owe her quarters for the lights we’ve left on.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 6, 2023, at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Dundee. Burial will follow at the River Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in West Dundee. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the family.
