Obituary for George C. Babcock

George C. Babcock, age 87, of Lake in the Hills, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine in Huntley, IL. George was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 2, 1935, and was the only child born to the late Harold and Evelyn (nee Andrus) Babcock. On October 12, 1973, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Carrol J. Martenson.

George and Carrol made their home in Lake in the Hills for the past 30 years. George graduated from Michigan State University in 1965, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Public Health. He also earned a degree in Mortuary Science from Wayne State University in 1957. Over his professional career, he had served as Vice President - Enzyme Manufacturing at Enzyme Bio-Systems Ltd. in Beloit, Wisconsin, and had worked at Corn Products in Argo, IL. George was also a very proud U.S. Army veteran. During his time in military service, George served in Mortuary Affairs/Grave Registration in Germany. George was also a member of Lake In The Hills American Legion Post # 1231

In addition to his beloved wife Carrol of almost 50 years, George is survived by their four children, Patricia K. Carney (James), William S. Babcock, Scott D. Martenson (Anne), and Brian L. Martenson; as well as eight grandchildren, Carly (Anish) Tailor, Alexander Martenson, Zachary Martenson, Rachel (Scott) Klein, Erik Martenson, Megan (Kurt) Kuczora, Heather (Kenneth) Galinski and Jimmy Carney, and his five great-grandchildren, Connor, Landon, Annie, Kaden, and Gavin.

Graveside Military Honors will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 4 at River Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in West Dundee. There will be no visitation. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
