Obituary for Florence M. Biewald

Florence M. Biewald, age 87, formerly of Niles, passed away on Saturday morning, March 18, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine, Huntley Hospital. Florence was born on March 6, 1936, in Chicago, IL., and was the daughter of the late Emil & Florence (nee Weidner) Baumhart.

Survivors include her 2 sons Robert (Anne) and Mark (Patti). Other survivors include her four grandchildren, Tim (Blaine), Patrick, Danielle, and Courtney; Other survivors include her nieces, nephews, and countless good and faithful friends.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Robert L. Biewald on November 2, 2022, and her sister, Dorothy Unger, and her 3 brothers, Rev. Fr. Ray Baumhart, Jerry Baumhart, and Jim Baumhart.

Florence worked for many years as an Executive Assistant at Victor Adding Machine and was proud to be a “hand model” with her hands prominently displayed in Victor ads in the Mid/Late 1950s. In the 1970’s she worked for Allstate in Northbrook as Head Cashier in their corporate cafeteria. Many of nights the Biewald family devoured leftover cafeteria food for dinner. Her final and longest lasting role was as Office Manager for Dr Gordon J Ziols, DDS in Chicago. She loved working for Dr Ziols and considered him her third son. Florence was active in local democratic politics and was a long time Cook County election judge. She was quick to help people in need and was a compassionate caregiver for many friends and family members. Easily the role she enjoyed most was that of grandmother. Always present at any and all of her grandkids activities, often strapping on the goalie gear for basement hockey games, or making sure to add extra sugar on the strawberries, she excelled at being Grandma.

Being Mom in the Biewald house was not easy as it was an endless cycle of everything to the extreme. Sports, either participatory, or yelling at the TV. Wrestling, either in the living room or on TV. Music, always blowing through Dad’s giant speakers. Endless Happy Hours starting at 5:01pm. And all of the other hijinks that came along with three guys living in a small house. It was constant and knew no off season. Somehow, she persevered with her humor and sanity intact.

Visitation at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. until the time of Funeral Services at 6:30 P.M. with Rev. J. Robert Camacho, officiating.
