Obituary for Edwin A. Obrachta
Edwin “OB” Obrachta, age 87, of Huntley formerly of Hoffman Estates and Chicago’s northwest side (Portage Park) passed away on Sunday evening, April 30, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine in Huntley surrounded by his loving family. OB was born in Chicago on December 15, 1935, and was the son of the late August & Alexandra (nee Morawa) Obrachta.
On June 8, 1957, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Rita Lange. OB & Rita made their home in Huntley for the past 16 years. Prior to retirement, for over 40 years, OB was a loyal and valued employee of IBM. OB was a very proud United States Navy Korean War veteran and served aboard the 5th Fleet’s USS Pine Island.
OB is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita, and their three children, Keith Obrachta, Kevin Obrachta, and Kym (John) Brunner. Other survivors include his three grandchildren, Kaitlin and her husband Justin Adkerson, Emily and her husband Brandon Rachwal, and Karly Brunner; his great-grandchildren, Alice, Archer, and Oaklynn Adkerson; and his sister, Vicky Kmiecik, as well as his nieces, nephews, and friends.
At OB’s request, he will be cremated. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of a Prayer Service and Military Honors at 3:00 P.M. Inurnment will be private.
