Charles Larry Maddux, PhD., age 81, of East Dundee, former many-year resident of Lincolnton, North Carolina passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday evening, April 13, 2023, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington. Charles was born in Live Oak, Florida on October 4, 1941, and was the son of the late Walter Roswell Maddux and Zilla Mae Gaskin.
Charles was an Industrial Engineer by profession serving primarily in various manufacturing roles. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Aurora University in 1976 and his Master’s degree from Aurora University in 1982 and in 1985 earned his Doctorate degree from Southern Pacific University in California. Charles proudly served in the United States Navy ( Vietnam War Era) from 1962-1966. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church both in West Dundee and in Lincolnton, North Carolina where he sang in the choir as well as a member of the church council.
On December 6, 1969, he married his beloved wife and best friend Patricia L. Jones Tilley.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia, and his step-daughters, Lisa (Mitch) Hanley and Carrie (Doug Kolpak) Tilley. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Shannon (David) Croom, Patrick (Stephanie) Hanley, Kyle (Chelsea) Kolpak, Kelley Kolpak, and Kody Kolpak; his great-grandchildren, Kendall and Austin Croom and Logan Hanley; his nieces, Lori (Steven) Rodeback and Robyn King Hootselle; and his nephew, Marshall Bradley King, along with several grand and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Maddux King, and his niece, Leslie King Sweatman.
At Charles’s request, he will be cremated. There will be a Memorial Gathering held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee with Military Honors rendered at 4:30 P.M. Please omit flowers.
