Obituary for Bonita M. Penera
Bonita M. “Bonnie” (nee Sajtar) Penera age 74, of Elgin formerly of Carpentersville passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Bonnie was born on November 17, 1947, in Chicago, IL, and was the daughter of the late Richard J. & Dolores (nee Valha) Sajtar.
On October 7, 1978, she married her husband Alonzo A. Penera. Alonzo preceded Bonnie in death on July 14, 1997, after 18 years of marriage.
Bonnie was a resident of the Carpentersville-Elgin areas for over 50 years and was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin. Prior to retirement, Bonnie had worked as a Paralegal.
Survivors include her son, Marc Penera; her stepson, Conrad (Lina) Penera; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brothers, Richard (Bobette) and Frank (Greg Hunt) Sajtar; her sisters, Constance Sajtar, Mildred (Thomas) Jackson, and Christine (Jeffrey) Unruh; her brother-in-law, Allen Zirfas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sisters, Therese Sajtar (in infancy) and Dolores “Dee Dee” Zirfas, and her two Step-Sons, Cesar and Alonzo, Jr.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Laurence Catholic Church 225 Jewett Street (Corner of Standish & Jewett) in Elgin. Rev. Andrew Mulcahey will officiate. Burial will follow at Dundee Twp. East Cemetery in East Dundee. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee and again on Saturday morning at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
