Obituary for Barbara M Tsikretsis (Penkava)

Barbara M. Tsikretsis (nee Penkava), 76, of Carpentersville passed away peacefully and on her own terms after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, on Thursday, December 8th. Barbara was born on October 3rd, 1946 in Chicago to Dolores and Miles Penkava, and was a resident of the Carpentersville area for over 40 years. She took pride in working for Aramark/Sodehxo/Compass serving lunches to students in District 220 for over 25 years.

Barbara was a sports fanatic - unabashedly cheering for the Cubs, Blackhawks, and Lakers even (and especially) through losing seasons. One of her favorite sports moments was in 2016 when “there’s always next season” came to fruition and she was able to celebrate a Cubs World Series victory and sing “Go Cubs Go” like she never had before. When she wasn’t cheering for her teams, you could find Barbara at a music festival with her sons, sneaking her way to the front of the stage, or taking care of her beloved pets, or at a WWE event – always smiling, laughing and enjoying her life with her children that were her entire world.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John, on February 1st, 2013, after nearly 40 years of marriage. Surviving are her children: Edward and Thomas of Carpentersville & Monica of Aurora. Also, surviving are her brothers, Michael (Diane) of Crystal Lake and Kevin of Gilberts, as well as many friends, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at JourneyCare for their kindness and compassion in taking care of Barbara through her final days of life.
